Wild NBA Playoff Records Victor Wembanyama Could Actually Break

Grant HughesMay 22, 2026

If the 2026 NBA playoffs have confirmed anything, it's that San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama does not currently have any peers.

The night Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was awarded the MVP, Wemby popped off for 41 points, 24 rebounds, three assists and three blocks in a stirring 122-115 double-overtime win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. That game didn't mean SGA was an undeserving MVP, but it reinforced the fact that Wembanyama is in a class by himself right now.

With that in mind, we need to start measuring him against players outside his era.

Let's take a look at some of the postseason recordsโ€”of the single game and overall playoff-run varietyโ€”that Wemby might have in his sights.

Just to keep things interesting, we'll even offer up some guesses as to how likely Wembanyama is to match or break these all-time marks.

Youngest Player with Multiple 40-20 Games

Why not start with a simple question: If Wembanyama can post one 40-20 game, why can't he get another?

The short answer is because those games are exceedingly rare*, and every game Wemby plays through the rest of these playoffs will be against opponents hellbent on stifling his production.

Already, he's being held on seemingly every rebound and pushed off his spots inside, two tactics that make scoring and rebounding a lot tougher than it was earlier in the playoffs.

It's also worth noting that Wemby's first 40-20 effort came in a grueling 49 minutes. He's highly unlikely to come anywhere near that total again.

At the same time, Wembanyama went for 39 points and 15 boards against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the conference semifinals on May 8. He only needed 37 minutes to get that done. Overall, he's scored at least 27 points five times and grabbed at least 14 boards in seven of the 12 playoff games he's seen so far.

Viewed that way, it's not like that 40-20 performance in Game 1 against OKC was unforeseeable. It seems likely Wemby's first 40-20 won't be his last between now and whenever the Spurs' 2026 run ends.

Record Likelihood: 51 percent

Most Threes By a 7-Footer

Wembanyama has made 18 threes across a dozen postseason games so far, which isn't even the record for 7-footers if you account for youth.

Chet Holmgren was 22 (Wemby's age today) last year when he hit 27 long balls during the Oklahoma City Thunder's title run, a total that fell three short of the all-time mark of 30 shared by Channing Frye (2010) and Karl-Anthony Towns (2024).

Both Towns and Frye accumulated their totals in only 16 games, which means Wembanyama would have to get very hot (and be defended in such a way that encouraged higher-volume gunning) to creep up toward those guys' average of just under 2.0 made triples per game.

That said, Wemby's odds of hitting at least 30 triples to tie the single-postseason record remain solid. Based on the proceedings so far, the Western Conference Finals could be a long series. If it goes six or seven games, and if the Spurs advance, Wembanyama should have enough opportunities to claim the mark.

Let's account for the possibility that he drills a half-dozen treys in a game at some point against OKC, which could mean the record falls even if the Spurs don't advance. If San Antonio does make the Finals, this one's going down.

Record Likelihood: 65 percent

Highest True Shooting Percentage

3 of 5
San Antonio Spurs v Minnesota TImberwolves - Game Six

The current playoff record for true shooting percentage belongs to Devin Booker, who basically spent the entire 2023 postseason on a heater. His 68.6 true shooting percentage during Phoenix's 11-game stay in the playoffs tops Kevin Durant's 68.3 percent mark from 2017 with the Golden State Warriors.

Those two are the only players to ever top 68.0 percent true shooting for an entire postseason on a minimum of 200 field-goal attempts.

Through 12 playoff games and 171 shots, Wemby's true shooting percentage sits at 65.2 percentโ€”an exceptional rate of efficiency but not quite on the level of the leaders in this category.

To claim victory here, Wembanyama would have to run extremely hot for the rest of his postseason.

Record Likelihood: 25 percent

Block Percentage

4 of 5
San Antonio Spurs v Oklahoma City Thunder - Game Two

Records for total blocks and blocks per game are just barely in play. Through 12 contests, Wemby has swatted 48 shots, good for an average of 4.0.

Dikembe Mutombo's 5.8 blocks per game in the 1994 playoffs may never be topped, and several others are over the 4.0-per-game mark. Note, though, that Mutombo accumulated all those swats while playing 42.6 minutes per game.

Even after logging a ridiculous 49 minutes in that double-overtime Game 1 thriller against OKC, Wembanyama is only averaging 31.2 minutes per game in the playoffs.

That's where block percentage comes in. That stat, which measures the share of opponent two-point field-goal attempts blocked by the player while on the floor, is a rate stat, which means it isn't subject to the same playing-time-based fluctuations as total blocks and blocks per game.

Since blocks were tracked in 1973-74, Wemby's 11.1 percent block rate in these playoffs is over a full percentage point higher than Alonzo Mourning's second-place figure, which he put up in the 2005 postseason. Mutombo's 1994 9.3 percent block rate is third.

All Wemby has to do is hold on to the number he's already posting, and he'll set a new record.

Record Likelihood: 80 percent

An Unprecedented 3-by-5

5 of 5
Portland Trailblazers v San Antonio Spurs-Game One

Just over a decade ago, Kawhi Leonard logged six threes, five blocks and four steals in a 96-87 first-round win over the Memphis Grizzlies. That's the closest any player has ever come to amassing at least five blocks, steals and threes in a playoff game.

Wembanyama hasn't seriously threatened to become the first three-by-five playoff performer in league history just yet, but he's got a real shot.

We know blocks aren't an issue. He already has the NBA playoff record with 12 in a single postseason game, and he's rejected more than five shots in four of the dozen games he's played so far.

Though he hasn't fired away with a ton of volume consistently, Wembanyama did can five threes in a first-round win over the Blazers on April 19. He's made at least three triples two other times.

Steals will be the toughest category to hit, as Wemby has gone without a single theft in seven of his 12 playoff appearances. San Antonio's scheme just doesn't put him in position to pile up steals, and opponents tend to be especially careful with the ball around him.

Still, he did swipe four of them in Game 4 against Portland (while also amassing a personal-best plus-28 plus-minus). We know he has it in him.

Record Likelihood: 40 percent
