Kelly Oubre Jr., Pacers Reportedly Agree to Contract amid NBA Free Agency Rumors

Timothy RappJul 1, 2026

Kelly Oubre Jr. has been a solid contributor for the Philadelphia 76ers over the past three seasons. Other teams clearly took notice.

Namely the Indiana Pacers, who agreed to terms on a two-year, $17 million deal with Oubre on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Oubre, 30, averaged 14.1 points, five rebounds and 1.4 steals across 50 games in the 2025-26 campaign, shooting 46.7 percent from the field and a career-high 36 percent from three.

Like many of the Sixers, a number of injuries significantly reduced his availability this past season. But when healthy he was one of the team's most important role players, providing a much-needed two-way presence on the wing.

The Sixers came into the offseason light on trustworthy, two-way wings, so retaining Oubre always seemed likely to be a priority. He fit nicely into a starting lineup that also included the young backcourt of Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe and veteran stars Joel Embiid and Paul George.

Oubre told reporters after the season ended with a sweep against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals that he wanted to be back in Philly and loved it there, but acknowledged he wasn't sure how free agency would play out.

"I feel like this is not my first rodeo. I've averaged 20 points in this league. Still found myself barely getting any contracts. But at the end of the day, I've learned so much," he noted. "The game of basketball has reinvented itself to me through different lenses and different eyes throughout my tenure here. I'm forever appreciative for the opportunity to play for this city. Obviously I don't like how it ended, so I always say I like to finish what I start. This is a bit sour for me."

But Indiana clearly made him an offer he felt he couldn't refuse, improving their depth on the wing in the process.

Oubre made sense for the Pacers, with small forward one of the question marks heading into the 2026-27 season. A core group of Tyrese Haliburton, Andrew Nembhard, Pascal Siakam, Ivica Zubac, Obi Toppin, Aaron Nesmith, Jarace Walker, T.J. McConnell and now Oubre has the look of a potential contender.
