Darryn Peterson over AJ Dybantsa? NBA Exec Explains Why Wizards Should Draft Kansas Star No. 1
BYU star AJ Dybantsa is currently the frontrunner to be the top overall selection for the Washington Wizards at June's NBA draft, though Kansas guard Darryn Peterson still has his admirers.
"I think they should take Peterson," one member of an NBA team's front-office personnel told Josh Robbins and David Aldridge of The Athletic regarding the Wizards. "They have the infrastructure for him to reach his full potential."
"Darryn Peterson did some extraordinary things, sometimes all in the same half," another added, though they still favored Dybantsa for the top overall selection.
Most of the question marks surrounding Peterson involved his odd freshman season, where hamstring, cramping issues and illnesses led to some strange patterns of rest. But when he was on the court he was fantastic, averaging 20.2 points per game while shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three.
Dybantsa has less question marks, making him the early favorite to be the No. 1 pick. But if the Wizards went with Peterson instead, it wouldn't exactly be a shock.
