Kyler Murray Injured on Illegal Hit by Packers, Latest Updates on Vikings QB

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray was forced to leave early in his team debut after going down with a first-quarter injury against the Green Bay Packers.

Packers safety Javon Bullard was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play.

The Vikings announced Murray was being evaluated for a concussion before ruling him out for the rest of the game.

Carson Wentz came into the game with Murray injured, while J.J. McCarthy was inactive as the emergency quarterback.

Murray spent his first seven seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, who selected the former Oklahoma star and 2018 Heisman Trophy winner with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

The 2019 Associated Press Rookie of the Year and two-time Pro Bowler completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 20,460 yards (7.0 YPA), 121 touchdowns and 60 interceptions. He's also rushed for 3,193 yards and 32 touchdowns on 532 carries (6.0 YPC).

The 29-year-old Murray has unfortunately dealt with injuries on multiple occasions. He suffered a torn ACL in Dec. 2022 while running and making a cut against the New England Patriots. Murray missed the rest of the season and played just eight games in 2023.

Last season, Murray played only five games after suffering a foot injury against the Tennessee Titans. The Cardinals and Murray parted ways after the season, ending his seven-year tenure with the team.

Murray signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings in March. He joined a team looking for a veteran signal-caller after McCarthy, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, struggled in his first season on the field in 2025 (McCarthy suffered a torn meniscus that kept him sidelined in 2024).

Though Murray and the Vikings were looking for a bounce-back year, this was not the start either were looking for against Green Bay.
