NBA Agent's Comments on Daryl Morey Spotlighted by Windhorst After 76ers Exit, 'Lowest EQ'
After the Philadelphia 76ers parted ways with team president Daryl Morey on Tuesday, more details have emerged about his shortcomings during his six-year tenure.
During Wednesday's episode of The Hoop Collective, ESPN's Brian Windhorst revealed an interesting tidbit about Morey that he heard from a longtime agent who "went many rounds with him on a lot of things."
"Look, I had an agent tell me one time, Daryl maybe has the highest IQ of any of the NBA executives and one of the lowest EQs," Windhorst said around the 1:01:31 mark.
"EQ" commonly means emotional quotient and typically refers to how someone is able to recognize and manage emotions within themselves or others. While Morey was known for his analytical approach, ESPN's Tim MacMahon pointed out during the podcast that he has "never been a guy who valued, or even frankly considered, the human element," and he "does not believe in basketball chemistry."
The Sixers were swept by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals, raising significant concerns over the roster that Morey put together. The star trio of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George failed to establish consistent chemistry since George joined Philadelphia as one of Morey's prized acquisitions two years ago.
With an uncertain future ahead, more changes could be coming to the Sixers this offseason as they try to figure out their best path forward.
