New NBA Rumors on Stephen Curry Contract Extension with Warriors After Steve Kerr's Deal

Julia StumbaughMay 9, 2026

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly planning to open extension talks with Stephen Curry after re-signing head coach Steve Kerr for two more seasons.

The Warriors are "expected to have extension conversations later this summer" with Curry, ESPN's Anthony Slater, Shams Charania and Ramona Shelburne reported Saturday.

Curry is currently signed for one more season at a cap hit of $62.6 million, per Spotrac. He is eligible to sign an extension spanning up to two seasons this summer.

Charania, Slater and Shelburne reported Saturday the Warriors had signed Kerr to a new two-year deal that will maintain his status as the NBA's highest-paid coach.

Curry, who turned 38 in March, said in April he "for sure" anticipated playing multiple more seasons in the NBA.

Re-signing Curry might not be the only move the Warriors are planning this season, per Slater, Charania and Shelburne.

According to Slater, Charania and Shelburne, "the front office intends to be aggressive in rearranging the roster to better compete for a playoff spot in a crowded conference."

That might involve pursuing a star to bolster a roster that could be missing Jimmy Butler for at least part of next season after undergoing ACL surgery in February.

Shelburne reported in March that the Warriors had taken a swing at acquiring Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo ahead of the February trade deadline, but that an offer of four unprotected first-rounders hadn't been enough to sway the Bucks.

Kerr coached last season on an expiring contract, and expressed uncertainty after the Warriors' play-in loss to the Phoenix Suns last month as to whether he would be returning for another NBA season.

His new deal means the Warriors could keep together Kerr, Curry and Draymond Green, the remainder of the Warriors dynasty that won four titles between 2015 and 2022, for at least one more season.

Green has a $27.7 million player option for 2026-27, and ESPN's Anthony Slater reported in April he is expected to either take the option or sign an extension with the Warriors.

How Curry feels about the franchise's direction when taking Butler's health, Green's contract and potential offseason trades into account could potentially influence his upcoming contract talks.
