Draymond Green Reportedly Declines $27.7M Warriors Contract Option Amid LeBron, Anthony Davis Rumors

Andrew PetersJun 29, 2026

Amid uncertainty surrounding the future of the Golden State Warriors, one of the franchise's mainstays is entering free agency.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, Draymond Green is declining his $27.7 million contract option for the 2026-27 campaign.

This news comes after Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor reported on Sunday that the Warriors were looking to sign Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and trade for Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis.

While Green's future with the Warriors is no longer guaranteed, his declining of the offer by no means indicates that his time with Golden State is over.

NBA insidersย Mark Stein and Jake Fischerย reported in April that the Warriors' preference was for Green to decline the option and sign a longer-term deal at a lower annual salary. If Green does that, it could create some flexibility as Golden State starts to plan for the future.

The 36-year-old Green is coming off a season in which he posted 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. While he's no longer the Defensive Player of the Year candidate and All-Star player he once was, Green is more than serviceable and can be a valuable asset.

The question now is whether Green will stay in Golden State or sign with another team for the first time in his career. He said in May that he can't see himself playing for another franchise, but perhaps the right offer could convince him to leave the Warriors.
