Roman Anthony's Injury Status Updated By Red Sox's Chad Tracy After Exiting Win vs. Tigers

Zach BacharMay 5, 2026

Boston Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy provided an update on outfielder Roman Anthony after he left the team's 5-4 win over the Detroit Tigers on Monday due to a wrist injury.

"We'll keep assessing him over the next couple of days to see how he's feeling," Tracy said Tuesday, via ESPN. "But even with a sprain, it's going to be reactive on how is it feeling and how's it progressing. That's good news. But we still have to see how he feels over the next couple of days."

Tracy also confirmed that Anthony will be "day to day" moving forward.

In the first inning of Boston's win over Detroit, the 21-year-old appeared to tweak his wrist on a check swing and exited the contest in the bottom of the second frame.

The Red Sox were hopeful that Anthony would be able to avoid a stint on the injured list, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne.

Following a 2025 season in which Anthony slashed .292/.396/.463 and finished No. 3 in American League Rookie of the Year voting, he was still searching for more consistency at the plate to open his 2026 campaign.

In 30 appearances this year, he's hitting .229 with one home run and five doubles to go along with five RBI. Anthony has also posted a .675 OPS.

The Red Sox currently sit at the bottom of the AL East standings with a 14-21 record.
