Lakers' LeBron James Discusses Historic NBA Finals Streak, 'I Was So Engulfed In It'

As he nears the end of his legendary NBA career, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James reflected on one of the most pivotal runs of his tenure in the league.

While speaking to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, James discussed his historic streak of making it to the NBA Finals in eight straight years between his time with the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"I can't," James said when asked if can explain his iconic Finals run. "I was so engulfed in it. I never gave myself the chance to relax, even when I went to the Finals -- whether I won or lost. When I won it, all I was thinking about was, 'How can I repeat?' When I lost, 'How can I get back for redemption?' That's all I was thinking about. I don't know how I was able to do it eight straight years."

James won three of his NBA titles during his eight-year streak, which included defeating the 73-9 Golden State Warriors in one of the greatest Finals series of all time in 2016. He added his fourth championship ring with the Lakers in 2020.

The 41-year-old owns a handful of prestigious NBA records, and he feels his mark of eight straight NBA Finals appearances is one that won't be broken anytime soon.

"Now looking back on it, I don't think anybody will be able to ever do that again," James said. "But can never say never in this league."
