2026 NBA Free Agents Rumors and Predictions for LeBron James, Ayo Dosunmu and More

Zach BuckleyApr 27, 2026

Most NBA franchises will spend the 2026 offseason wondering where it all went wrong.

And searching for possible solutions to avoid similar slipups in the future.

For some, those answers will be found at the draft or on the trade market. For others, free agency might provide that relief.

Rumblings are starting to surface around some of the bigger names on the market, so let's break down that buzz and decipher what it means.

Warriors Making a Run at LeBron?

1 of 3
Los Angeles Lakers v Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors seem determined to do everything in their power to give Stephen Curry another crack at NBA championship. And part of that no-stone-unturned search could involve another run at Curry's longtime NBA Finals adversary, LeBron James.

The Dubs have kicked around the idea before and are expected to "test the waters again on soon-to-be free agent LeBron James," per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Anthony Slater.

It's certainly an intriguing scenario. Setting aside their larger-than-life statures, James and Curry have play styles that could dazzle alongside one another. Curry would feast on shots James created. James, in turn, might be unguardable with all of the breathing room afforded by Curry's off-ball gravity.

It makes sense whey Golden State would want to explore this option. James is the harder sell, though. His home and family are in L.A. His son, Bronny James, is in the same locker room. And he already has a pretty cushy offensive setup when net-shredders Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves are healthy.

Prediction: James re-signs with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Hornets Hoping to Keep Coby White?

2 of 3
Charlotte Hornets v Orlando Magic - Play-In Tournament

When the Charlotte Hornets were looking to capitalize on their second-half surge, they made a deadline deal for spark-plug scorer—and North Carolina native—Coby White.

They had more than just the stretch run in mind. White is approaching unrestricted free agency, and Charlotte sounds ready to cover the cost of that journey.

"Like I said when we traded for Coby, we envisioned him as somebody who's going to be with the Hornets for a long time," general manager Jeff Peterson told reporters. "... I'm exicted to see what this offseason looks like. He gets a full offseason with us and then going into next season as well."

The Hornets clearly want to keep White around, but it wouldn't be surprising if he at least assesses his options elsewhere. Charlotte can't give him a starting spot, after all, so perhaps he pokes around to see if one is out there. But given the limited number of spenders, White's familiarity with the franchise (and area) and the team's trajectory, he probably isn't finding a better situation than his current setup.

Prediction: White re-signs with the Charlotte Hornets.

Ayo Dosunmu Weighing All Options?

3 of 3
Denver Nuggets v Minnesota TImberwolves - Game Four

The Chicago Bulls made Chicago native Ayo Dosunmu the 38th pick of the 2021 draft, then helped him navigate his first four NBA seasons. Midway through his fifth, though, they discarded him—sending him to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of a future-focused roster reset around the trade deadline.

If there were any harsh feelings on Dosunmu's side, though, it doesn't sound like they'll carry over into his upcoming free agency decision. If the Bulls wanted to make the call, he'd hear them out.

"Everything is on the table when you're a free agent," Dosunmu told Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. "That's the main thing about being a free agent—you listen. You have conversations with whoever is interested ... so I wouldn't rule out no team."

If the Bulls have any interest in trying to bring back Dosunmu, they better be ready to spend. He's been brilliant during his first ever trip to the playoffs, tallying a wildly efficient 68 points over his last two outings. He might be making himself too expensive for the Minnesota Timberwolves to keep, frankly, although the shortage of obvious spenders could work in their favor.

Prediction: Dosunmu re-signs with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
