Florida HC Todd Golden Addresses Warriors Links amid Steve Kerr, NBA Rumors

Florida Gators head coach Todd Golden has been rumored to be a potential candidate to replace Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr if he leaves the team, but it sounds like he's not looking to make the jump to the NBA just yet.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Golden was asked if he's "for sure" sticking with Florida, and he responded, "I'm definitely planning on coaching the Gators."

Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports recently reported that the Warriors "love" Golden and would target him if they part ways with Kerr this offseason. During The Kevin O'Connor Show, he detailed Golden's previous connection to Warriors owner Joe Lacob.

"Golden was the head coach of the San Francisco Dons for three years before he went to Florida and won a national title there," O'Connor said (h/t Thomas Goldkamp of On3.com). "They've been together. They've had lunches together, those guys know each other, and Golden is a very, very talented young head coach. So I think for the Warriors, Golden would be near the top of their list, if not at the top of their list."

Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area reported that there's a "growing belief" that Kerr will be "comfortably jobless" after he meets with Lacob and Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy this offseason.

Unfortunately, it now appears that Golden State will have to look elsewhere for a new leader if it has to replace Kerr. Golden led Florida to a national championship in 2025 and back-to-back No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. He will have most of his key players back next season to make a run at another national title.
