Atlanta Hawks guard CJ McCollum discussed his kick to New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson's groin while attempting a shot during Game 1 of the first-round playoff series between the two teams on Saturday.

"I shot a jumper and Jalen thought we were at a Broadway show," McCollum told reporters after the game. "He acted it out until they reviewed it. It's a normal jump shot. Nothing there. Unnecessary and I look forward to getting my $2,500 back."

Brunson also reflected on the play following the Knicks' 113-102 win over Atlanta.

"It wasn't purposeful so we move forward," Brunson told reporters.

In the third quarter of the game, McCollum kicked Brunson between the legs while rising up for a jumper. Brunson stayed down on the floor after the play, with officials reviewing the kick before calling a technical foul on McCollum.

After the ensuing technical free throw, New York held a 58-55 lead near the beginning of the third quarter.

The Hawks quickly tied the game afterwards, but the Knicks responded with a 10-2 run to gain some more breathing room once again.

New York ended up taking a nine-point advantage at the end of the third quarter and continued to excel in the fourth, leading by as many as 19 points before holding on for the 1-0 series lead.

McCollum finished with a team-high 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting, connecting on four of his nine attempts from behind the arc. He also grabbed four rebounds and dished out one assist, but committed five turnovers.

As for Brunson, he scored 28 points with 19 coming in the first quarter. He also recorded seven assists and five rebounds, shooting 9-of-22 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point territory.

Game 2 between the Knicks and Hawks is on Monday at 8 p.m. ET.
