Last week, Brian Steinberg of Variety reported on the new league, which will air on TNT, TBS, truTV and HBO Max during summer 2026, and feature 24 dunkers competing for a $500,000 grand prize.

Basketball Hall of Famer and TNT Sports personality Shaquille O'Neal will serve as the commissioner of the league.

The 27-year-old McClung is best known for becoming the first player in history to win three consecutive NBA Slam Dunk Contests, doing so from 2023 to 2025.

McClung accomplished that feat despite the fact that he has only appeared in 17 NBA regular-season games since first breaking into the league in 2021.

During stints with the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and Indiana Pacers, McClung owns career averages of 5.9 points, 1.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds per contest.

The former Texas Tech standout's greatest on-court success outside of the Slam Dunk Contest has come in the G League.

McClung is a one-time G League champion and two-time G League MVP, including this season when he averaged 31.8 points, 7.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game in 40 appearances for the Windy City Bulls.

Although McClung's G League success and star power achieved through the Slam Dunk Contest have only led to fleeting opportunities in the NBA, Dunkman provides him with a unique platform to showcase his skills and continue building his brand as one of the best and most exciting dunkers in the world.
