LeBron Compares 76ers to Two-Face Villain from Batman and Admits 'You Fear' Heat Can 'Kick Your Ass'
Ahead of the start of the NBA play-in tournament on Tuesday night, LeBron James offered a favorable assessment of both the Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat leading into their respective games.
On the latest episode of Mind the Game (starts at 9:00 mark), James explained the Heat are a team that "you know you can beat" on any night, but they are also one "you fear" because they can "kick your ass" with the talent and coaching they have.
In talking about the Sixers (starts at 9:05 mark), James compared them to the Batman villain Two-Face in wondering, "which one are we going to get?"
James is well aware of what Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is capable of dialing up in a must-win scenario. They were together for four seasons in Miami, plus on Team USA during the 2024 Olympics when Spoelstra was an assistant on Steve Kerr's staff.
Few teams know the play-in tournament better than the Heat. This is their fourth consecutive year in the play-in, having advanced to the playoffs in each of the previous three seasons.
Last year saw Miami become the first No. 10 seed in either conference to win both games and reach the postseason. The Heat will have to follow that same path again this year, starting with Tuesday's game against the Charlotte Hornets.
The Two-Face analogy fits the 76ers, who will host the Orlando Magic in the 7-8 game on Wednesday, in part because you never know who will be playing on a given night.
Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George played just 294 minutes over 15 games together this season. Embiid's status for the postseason, if the Sixers advance, is unclear after undergoing an appendectomy on April 10.
Since winning a season-high five straight games from Jan. 27-Feb. 3, the 76ers closed the regular season with a 16-16 record over their final 32 games.
A win on Wednesday night guarantees the 76ers the No. 7 seed in the East and three days off before playing Game 1 of the Eastern Conference first-round series against the Boston Celtics on Sunday.
If the 76ers are firing on all cylinders, they have the top-end talent to compete with anyone in the East. It's just hard to know if we will get to see them at their best given Embiid's health status right now.
