Latest NBA Rumors on Steve Kerr's Future Ahead of Warriors vs. Clippers Play-In Game

Doric SamApr 14, 2026

The Golden State Warriors' season could come to an end in Wednesday night's play-in tournament game against the Los Angeles Clippers, and so would head coach Steve Kerr's contract.

However, it doesn't sound like Kerr is leaving the sidelines anytime soon, as The Athletic's Nick Friedell reported that "there's been no indication of a split" between him and the Warriors.

Kerr signed a two-year, $35 million extension with Golden State in 2024 that expires after this season. Friedell explained that Kerr and general manager Mike Dunleavy "have been consistent all season: they'll address the future after it ends." He added that a team source "reiterated recently that nothing has changed and that all sides will communicate openly when the season concludes."

The Warriors finished the year with a 37-45 record, just their second time finishing below .500 during Kerr's tenure as head coach. Golden State dealt with a slew of injuries throughout the year, as star guard Stephen Curry missed significant time with a knee injury and star wing Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending torn ACL.

If they get past the Clippers on Wednesday, the Warriors will need to win one more game in the play-in tournament to earn a playoff spot. It's safe to assume that Golden State will fight to keep its season alive despite the uphill battle ahead.
