Cooper Flagg Matches Michael Jordan Feat to Make NBA History in Rookie Season

Andrew PetersApr 13, 2026

Cooper Flagg joined NBA legend Michael Jordan in achieving a historic feat this season.

The Dallas Mavericks rookie led the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals in 2025-26, making him and Jordan the only rookies to do so since the 1973-74 campaign.

Flagg put together a tremendous season after going first overall, posting 21 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. The Mavs perhaps didn't expect their rookie to be the team's top option immediately, but injuries meant that he had no other choice.

Unfortunately for the Mavs, their star rookie couldn't lead them back to the playoffs as Dallas finished the year 26-56 to miss the postseason for a second consecutive season. Still, Mavericks fans should have plenty of hope knowing Flagg is their franchise player.

Flagg's outstanding play this year has him neck and neck with his former Duke teammate, Kon Knueppel, for the Rookie of the Year award. Knueppel put up 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the Charlotte Hornets, quickly establishing himself as one of the best three-point shooters in the league.

Being in the same conversation as Jordan after just one season means Flagg is doing something right, and he'll look to build off of the historic season next year.
