Tatum will be making an appearance at Madison Square Garden for the first time since he suffered an Achilles tear in Game 4 of Boston's second-round playoff loss to New York last season.
"I'm not like, thrilled, to go back and play there," Tatum said Tuesday, per ESPN's Tim Bontemps. "Last time I played there, obviously, it was a traumatic experience for me."
"Obviously, I knew at some point I would have to get over that hurdle and play there again," he added. "So, it's going to have to be this Thursday. But it's not like I'm thrilled about it. But it's part of it."
The Celtics will be without star Jaylen Brown, who is set to miss the contest due to left Achilles tendinitis.
They'll rely on Tatum instead, who has averaged 21.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game on 41.9/33.8/82.6 shooting splits this season.
Boston holds a three-game lead over New York for the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Knicks enter the matchup riding a three-game winning streak, as Brunson has continued to serve as their offensive engine.
He's averaging 26.0 points and 6.8 assists per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 37.0 percent from behind the arc this season.
Tip-off between the Celtics and Knicks on Thursday is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
