New Steph Curry Injury Status Update for Warriors vs. Kings as Star Out for LeBron, Lakers Matchup

Julia StumbaughApr 9, 2026

Stephen Curry and LeBron James will not play against one another this regular season.

Curry was listed as out due to right knee injury management for Thursday's game between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers.

However, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters that Curry would play Friday night against the Sacramento Kings. Golden State is already locked into the No. 10 seed in the West

Having Curry available for the play-in tournament will be key to the team's hopes of making it back to the playoffs this spring.

This is the fourth time the Warriors and Lakers have met this season, but one or both of James and Curry were sidelined in each matchup.

James was out with sciatica when the two teams opened the season on Oct. 21, while Curry was sidelined with his knee injury for both of their matchups in February.

Curry had missed a total of more than two months with his right knee injury before he made his return last Sunday against the Houston Rockets.

He told reporters he faced multiple setbacks over that span while working his way back from "runner's knee," per ESPN's Anthony Slater.

Curry came off the bench in his return to score 29 points in 26 minutes on Sunday, leading the Warriors on a comeback push against the Rockets that ultimately fell just short.

He played again in the Warriors' win over the Kings two days later, during which he contributed 17 points in 25 minutes off the bench.

The Warriors don't have postseason positioning to play for anymore now that the team's seed was locked in Tuesday night with a Los Angeles Clippers win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Golden State will now need to win two play-in games, starting with a road victory over either the Los Angeles Clippers or Portland Trail Blazers, in order to make it back to the playoffs.

After tonight's matchup against the Lakers, the Warriors are set to finish out the regular season against the Kings on Saturday, followed by what could be a play-in preview against the Clippers on Monday.
