Predicting 7 Top MLB Prospects Who Will Debut in April

Joel ReuterApr 11, 2026

An impressive collection of top prospect talent broke camp with a spot on Opening Day rosters this season. That doesn't mean we won't see another wave of up-and-comers in the big leagues later this month.

Hot starts in the minors, emerging holes on the MLB roster or injuries can quickly create a big-league path for a player who was sent to the minors to open the year. Looking ahead, we've highlighted seven guys with a realistic shot of debuting this month.

Players who have already made their MLB debut were not considered, so guys like Payton Tolle (BOS) and Bryce Eldridge (SF) are not included. When applicable, each player's ranking on the latest B/R Top 100 prospect list and on his team's top 10 prospect list in our farm system rankings update is included for further context.

1B Charlie Condon, Colorado Rockies

1 of 7
Colorado Rockies v Seattle Mariners

2026 Stats: 37 PA, .323/.432/.645, 4 XBH (3 HR), 6 RBI
B/R Top 100: No. 76 (No. 2 COL)

The Rockies used the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 draft on Charlie Condon after he hit .433 with 37 home runs to win Golden Spikes honors as the nation's top amateur player.

Placeholders T.J. Rumfield and Troy Johnston won't stand in his way once the Rockies decide he's ready. After a strong showing in the 2025 Arizona Fall League and a hot start at Triple-A, he is knocking on the door.

With Rumfield and Johnston both producing right now, they could slot Condon into the DH role where they have used six different players through 13 games, as they look to build momentum off a better-than-expected 6-7 start.

IF Colt Emerson, Seattle Mariners

2 of 7
Colorado Rockies v Seattle Mariners

2026 Stats: 42 PA, .308/.341/.487, 5 XBH (1 HR), 5 RBI
B/R Top 100: No. 9 (No. 1 SEA)

Colt Emerson made a serious run at the Opening Day roster during spring training, logging an .828 OPS with two home runs in 47 plate appearances, but the Mariners ultimately opted to send him back to Triple-A for a bit more seasoning.

With the Mariners currently last in the majors in batting average (.184) and OPS (.581) while averaging 3.1 runs per game, the ability to provide an early spark might outweigh that additional development time.

Clearing a path could be as simple as shifting Brendan Donovan back to the super-utility role where he has thrived in years past. The eight-year, $95 million extension Emerson signed last month was a clear vote of confidence from the front office in his ability to make an impact in 2026.

RHP JR Ritchie, Atlanta Braves

3 of 7
Minnesota Twins v Atlanta Braves

2026 Stats: 3 GS, 1.72 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 7 BB, 15 K, 15.2 IP
B/R Top 100: No. 92 (No. 2 ATL)

Spencer Strider, Hurston Waldrep, Bryce Elder, Ian Anderson, Michael Soroka, Bryse Wilson, AJ Smith-Shawver and Didier Fuentes were all the same age (22) or younger than JR Ritchie is now when they made their MLB debut, so the Braves have a long history of aggressively promoting top pitching prospects.

Tommy John surgery limited Ritchie to 63 total innings during his first two full professional seasons, but he returned strong last year with a 2.64 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 140 strikeouts in 140 innings across three levels.

The Braves are currently trying to squeeze innings out of veteran Martín Pérez at the back of a banged-up rotation, but he might be just one or two shaky starts away from ceding his spot to Ritchie.

Los Angeles Angels v Chicago White Sox

Noah Schultz, Chicago White Sox

Chicago White Sox Photo Day

2026 Stats: 3 GS, 1.29 ERA, 0.43 WHIP, 2 BB, 19 K, 14.0 IP
B/R Top 100: No. 56 (No. 2 CWS)

Noah Schultz was trending toward No. 1 pitching prospect in baseball status when he logged a 2.24 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 88.1 innings while reaching Double-A as a 20-year-old in 2024.

His stuff and command backed up last year while he battled knee tendinitis. He finished with a 4.68 ERA while his walk rate more than doubled from 6.7 to 14.1 percent. Now he is back to full health and dominating Triple-A hitters to open the 2026 season.

With a towering 6'10" frame, an elite fastball-slider combination and a whip-like arm slot, he has drawn consistent comparisons to Randy Johnson. With opponents batting .089 against him through three starts and his walk rate down to an elite 4.3 percent, he is running out of boxes to check in the minors.

James Tibbs III, Los Angeles Dodgers

5 of 7
Cleveland Guardians v Los Angeles Dodgers

2026 Stats: 57 PA, .380/.456/.920, 12 XBH (7 HR), 13 RBI

James Tibbs III was the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 draft and viewed as one of the most polished college bats in his class following a junior season at Florida State, where he hit .363/.488/.777 with 28 home runs.

Originally drafted by the Giants, he was traded twice last year, first going to the Red Sox in the Rafael Devers blockbuster, and then on to the Dodgers in exchange for Dustin May at the deadline.

His prospect stock dipped during a lackluster debut and a good-not-great 2025 campaign, but he has come out swinging arguably the hottest bat in minor league baseball. The Dodgers don't have a clear path to regular at-bats, but they could still play the hot hand and reward him with a call-up and a few spot starts.

RHP Miguel Ullola, Houston Astros

6 of 7
MLB: MAR 04 Spring Training Houston Astros at Baltimore Orioles

2026 Stats: 2 GS, 1.86 ERA, 0.72 WHIP, 4 BB, 15 K, 9.2 IP

The Astros have shown a real knack for developing pitchers with an elite fastball over the years. Miguel Ullola fits the bill with a 65-grade heater that touches 97 mph with electric late life.

The 23-year-old has been utilized primarily as a starter in the minors. He has 302 strikeouts in 244 innings between Double-A and Triple-A the last two seasons, but those gaudy strikeout numbers are accompanied by a 14.9 percent walk rate.

The best way to utilize him might be as a multi-inning weapon out of the bullpen amid his strong start at Triple-A. The Astros bullpen ranks sixth in the majors with 53.1 innings of work this season, so his ability to miss bats and record more than three outs could be a major weapon.

Ryan Waldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks

7 of 7
Arizona Diamondbacks v Los Angeles Dodgers

2026 Stats: 58 PA, .298/.431/.532, 7 XBH (1 HR), 10 RBI
B/R Top 100: No. 51 (No. 2 ARI)

It looked like the third spot in the Diamondbacks outfield alongside Corbin Carroll and Alek Thomas would be filled by former top prospect Jordan Lawlar this season, but he is now on the 60-day injured list after suffering a fractured wrist.

Jorge Barrosa and Tim Tawa have been manning left field in his absence, but both profile better as bench pieces than everyday options. That opens the door for Ryan Waldschmidt to get the call in the near future.

The No. 31 overall pick in the 2024 draft broke through as the top prospect in the D-backs system last year while hitting .289/.419/.473 with 18 home runs, 78 RBI and 29 steals in 134 games between High-A and Double-A. It's only a matter of time before his 55-hit, 55-power offensive toolbox earns him a big league look.
