Victor Wembanyama Injury Update, Latest on Spurs Star After Exiting Game 2 Loss to Blazers

San Antonio Spurs star center Victor Wembanyama has been diagnosed with a concussion and will undergo further testing on Wednesday, per ESPN's Shams Charania.

Wembanyama entered concussion protocol and was ruled out for the remainder of the team's Game 2 clash with the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday.

Wembanyama's face hit the floor while he was fouled on a drive in the second quarter of the contest.

The Spurs went on to lose 106-103 with Wembanyama sidelined. The series is now tied 1-1.

As far as Wembanyama returning to the court goes, Charania noted the following:

"Per NBA guidelines, Wembanyama cannot return to full participation for 48 hours but can resume gradual activity in 24 hours as long as his symptoms don't worsen. Then he must hit several benchmarks while being symptom-free before he is cleared to play. He'll then require clearance from team doctor in consultation with league protocol director."

His status for Friday's Game 3 is to be determined. Charania reported that Wembanyama will travel with the team:

Wembanyama previously suffered a left rib contusion in the first half of San Antonio's 115-102 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on April 6.

The Spurs entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference once they ended the regular season with a 62-20 record.

After overcoming calf and knee injuries earlier in the year, Wembanyama has established himself as an MVP candidate. He helped lead San Antonio to its first 60-win season since 2016-17 while posting averages of 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.1 blocks per game.

He was named Defensive Player of the Year for his efforts.

If Wembanyama is forced to miss time moving forward, the Spurs will lean on veterans like Luke Kornet to fill the center spot.
