NBA Unveils Seeding Scenarios for 2026 Playoff Bracket Ahead of Final Week
The NBA laid out the stakes as the regular season enters into its final week.
Fans already know the general playoff field. The five teams outside of a play-in position in each conference have been mathematically eliminated.
The Detroit Pistons have locked down the No. 1 spot in the East, while the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs are the last two battling it out for the top seed in the West.

Beyond that, the league provided a quick look at the various possibilities for the final standings:
The West is particularly settled as the Los Angeles Clipppers, Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors are destined for the play-in tournament. The Phoenix Suns are nearly there as they have to close a three-game gap on the Minnesota Timberwolves with just four games left.
One minor subplot to follow is whether the third-seeded Los Angeles Lakers lose ground and fall down the standings.
L.A. is seriously shorthanded with Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves sidelined.
In Sunday's 134-128 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, coach JJ Redick had to roll out a starting five of LeBron James, Rui Hachimura, Jake LaRavia, Deandre Ayton and Luke Kennard.
Quite frankly, that doesn't look like a top-four lineup, and the Lakers are at risk of losing home-court advantage in the first round because they're only one game up on the fifth-seeded Houston Rockets.
The Timberwolves are probably hoping the current standings hold because Los Angeles could be a more favorable matchup than the Denver Nuggets.
Over in the East, there's a little more to play for.
None of the play-in spots has been decided as two games separate the sixth-place Philadelphia 76ers and 10th-place Miami Heat.
The Heat hit the road to play the Toronto Raptors in their next two games, and those results could carry serious implications in postseason seeding. The Sixers also have tricky matchups with the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets ahead, which could present an opportunity for one of the play-in teams to vault into the top six.
