Cooper Flagg Makes NBA History with 1st 50-Point Game for Mavs, Hyped By Fans After Career Night

Andrew PetersApr 3, 2026

Cooper Flagg's Rookie of the Year case got much stronger on Friday.

The No. 1 overall pick posted 51 points in the Dallas Mavericks' loss to the Orlando Magic. The career-high for Flagg made him the youngest player in NBA history with a 50-point game.

The star in the making received plenty of hype on social media after the scoring outburst.

Flagg has been phenomenal all year, putting up 20.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game to live up to the lofty expectations he had coming out of college. Arguably the only knock against Flagg has been his lackluster three-point numbers, but he showed promise on Friday, hitting six of his nine attempts from deep.

In most NBA seasons, Flagg would have already locked up the Rookie of the Year award, but the race is still very much on. He's currently neck and neck with his former Duke teammate, Kon Knueppel of the Charlotte Hornets.

Knueppel's numbers are slightly worse as he's putting up 18.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists, but he's helped the Horents get into playoff position, and they could be heading to the postseason for the first time in a decade.

Flagg helped his case on Friday, though. Whether the historic performance from the Mavs star will give him the edge over Knueppel is to be seen.
