Lakers' Luka Doncic to Pursue NBA Awards Eligibility, File Grievance After Hamstring Injury
Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Dončić is sidelined indefinitely and will miss the rest of the regular season due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, rendering him ineligible for postseason awards due to the 65-game rule.
However, Dončić's agent Bill Duffy released a statement Friday noting that they intend to apply for an "Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge" to the 65-game rule so that the Lakers star will be eligible for the awards:

Dončić finishes the regular season having played 64 games after injuring his hamstring in Thursday's loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
According to Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix, Dončić has a "strong case" to meet the "extraordinary circumstances" exception as he missed two games to travel to Europe for the birth of his child.
Prior to the statement from Dončić's agent, ESPN's Tim Bontemps noted on Friday there is a potential scenario in which Dončić becomes awards eligible if he doesn't play again in the regular season, but it would require him to file an extraordinary circumstances grievance that an independent arbitrator would rule on after the regular season ends.
ESPN's Bobby Marks provided the exact language in the collective bargaining agreement for the extraordinary circumstances grievance:
Lakers head coach JJ Redick told reporters after the loss to Oklahoma City that Dončić will undergo an MRI on Friday to determine the extent of the injury.
The Lakers have five games remaining in the regular season, which ends one week from Sunday.
If Dončić were to be deemed ineligible for postseason awards, he would be the third potential member of the 2025-26 All-NBA squad who can't be on the team. Cade Cunningham, who won't return until at least April 9, and Anthony Edwards will miss the 65-game cutoff.
