Luka Doncic Exits with Injury vs. Thunder, Latest Updates on Lakers Star
The Los Angeles Lakers could be dealing with a worst-case scenario late in the season.
Star point guard Luka Dončić exited Thursday's matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder after suffering a left hamstring injury.
Dončić will undergo an MRI on Friday to determine the severity of the injury.
Dončić has played 64 games, meaning he needs to play one more game to reach the threshold to be eligible for end-of-season awards.
Dončić has stayed healthy for the most part this season but has been bogged down by a hamstring strain recently. He exited the Lakers' Feb. 5 matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers with what JJ Redick initially called a "sore hamstring."
He ended up missing a handful of games with the injury but returned on Feb. 20.
That marked his longest stretch of consecutive games missed this season. Before the calf strain, he hadn't missed more than three games in a row since October.
Missing Dončić for any amount of time is bad news for the Lakers. The star point guard is putting up 33.8 points, 8.3 assists and 7.8 boards per game this year.
Dončić isn't the only Laker to have dealt with injuries recently. LeBron James, who missed the first 14 games of the year, has missed time in February because of foot arthritis. Austin Reaves, who is enjoying the best season of his career, missed more than a month because of a left calf injury.
Despite the injuries, Los Angeles has stayed in the mix and is currently sitting in third place in the West at 50-26.
With just five games to go in the regular season, the Lakers can only hope their star isn't looking at an extended absence.
