Jason Kidd Responds to Mark Cuban's Comments on Luka Doncic Trade, 'Here to Tell You the Truth'
Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd wasn't surprised by Mark Cuban's recent comments about his knowledge of the Luka Dončić trade before it went down.
Speaking to reporters on Friday during the Mavs' shootaround, Kidd explained he was "here to tell you the truth" even though Cuban "has a right to his opinion" on the matter.
Cuban said in a podcast interview this week that Kidd was involved in the Mavs' process of deciding to trade Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025.
In his first public comments after the trade went down, Kidd said he was "a little" surprised by the decision and wasn't made aware of it until right as it was about to go down.
Friday's meeting with the media marks the second time since Cuban's interview released that he has addressed the comments from the former Mavs governor.
"When are we going to move on?" Kidd told Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday. "We have to move forward. We're focused on the present and the future and we've got an incredible opportunity to build."
Kidd also expressed gratitude to Cuban in his discussion with Townsend, noting Cuban "helped" his family and pointed out they "won a championship together" when he was a player with the 2010-11 Mavericks.
Cuban's comments seem to be an indication of how raw things still feel among Mavericks fans and some officials—Cuban still has an ownership stake in the franchise—toward the group that decided to trade Dončić.
Depending on the status of Dončić's hamstring after suffering an injury on Thursday night, we might see if Dallas' feelings have quieted down in the 14 months since the deal.
The Mavs will host the Lakers at American Airlines Center on Sunday.
