Cooper Flagg Looks Back on NBA Draft Lottery Drama in Video, Mavs Were 'Never a Thought'
The Dallas Mavericks were a long shot to win the NBA lottery last year, and Cooper Flagg was just as surprised as they were to see them land the No. 1 pick.
Flagg explained on The Young Man and the Three that his reaction to the Mavs winning the lottery came from a place of shock since their odds were so low that he hadn't even considered Dallas as a possible landing spot.
"Dallas was never a thought. I never thought about coming to Dallas," Flagg said (1:55 mark). "There was a lot of teams in the mix... I never even thought about them getting the pick."

Flagg, like few players in NBA history, was a lock to go first overall long before the draft order was revealed, so it was a well-known fact that whoever won the lottery would end up with a generational prospect.
The Mavs landing the top pick was a shock to all, as they had just a 1.8 percent chance of doing so coming into the lottery.
Flagg has lived up to the hype so far, putting up 20.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, battling his former Duke teammate Kon Knueppel for Rookie of the Year.
