Watch LeBron Break Kareem's Win Record and Every Milestone Luka, Lakers Achieved vs. Cavs

Adam WellsApr 1, 2026

LeBron James and Luka Dončić are no strangers to rewriting the record books, but they had a field day in the Los Angeles Lakers' 127-113 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday.

One day after James tied Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time record for career wins, he surpassed him with his 1,229th victory between the regular season and playoffs. Dončić continued his torrid streak with 42 points and 12 assists.

In addition to James' wins record, there were four other historical markers set by members of the Lakers in the victory over the Cavaliers.

That list doesn't even include that Dončić, by getting to 15,000 career points, is the third-youngest player ever to reach that milestone.

After sitting out Monday's win over the Washington Wizards while serving an automatic one-game suspension for technical fouls, Dončić looked rested and ready to go. He now has an NBA-high 16 games with at least 40 points this season, six more than anyone else.

Dončić finished the month of March averaging 37.5 points on 49.2 percent shooting, 8.0 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game in 16 starts.

Among months in which he played at least 10 games, Dončić's scoring average in March tied for the highest-scoring month of his career with December 2023.

The Lakers finished the month with a 15-2 record. Over the last 10 seasons (starting with 2016-17), the only team with more wins in a single month were the Phoenix Suns in November 2021 (16).

With only six games remaining in the regular season, the Lakers (50-26) are still in the driver seat for the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. They lead the Denver Nuggets by two games with a fairly easy closing schedule, except for two games against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the next week.

The first of those Lakers-Thunder matchups will be played on Thursday at Paycom Center. Oklahoma City has won the first two head-to-head games between the teams this season.
