Wemby Reacts to Making NBA History with Third-Fastest Double-Double Ever on Record Since 1997-98

Victor Wembanyama said he might continue upping his shot totals after recording the NBA's third-fastest double-double in at least 28 years on Monday night.

Wembanyama attempted a season-high 27 field goals during the Spurs' 129-114 win over the Chicago Bulls.

"Just figuring out some stuff," Wembanyama said around the 0:20 mark of his Monday night press conference. "Felt like I needed my offense to get back to a certain level."

When asked if he envisioned similar shot totals in the playoffs, Wembanyama answered, "I could see it happening. I'll do whatever it takes."

Wembanyama recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds in his first 8:31 against the Bulls, hitting the double-double mark less than two minutes into the second quarter.

That's the third-fastest double-double since play-by-play action was first recorded in 1997-98, per ESPN and the Elias Sports Bureau. Only Boban Marjanovic (2017) and Jonas Valanciunas (2025) have hit that mark in fewer minutes on the court.

Marjanovic recorded his double-double in 8:13, while Valanciunas achieved the feat in 8:08.

Wembanyama finished out Monday night's win having played a total of 30:30 while recording 17 field goals for season-high 41 points, 63.4 percent of which he recorded in the paint.

He attributed his increased shot total both to his team making more open-corner threes and to his chemistry with Stephon Castle, who is averaging 7.2 assists per game in his second NBA season.

"We've had the chance to spend lots of minutes on the court together, and he understands me very well," Wembanyama said Monday. "And that's not just randomly we're just in sync. We're getting along together because he, as the ball-handler, is actively trying to get the best shot for the team. And me, as the roller, I'm trying to make sure every time he throws it up high enough... it ends up in the back."

Wembanyama added, "I hope to spend 15 years as his teammate, so hopefully we see thousands of lobs."

The Spurs have won nine straight games, as well as 25 of their last 27, while climbing into the No. 2 spot in the West.

Wembanyama, Castle and the Spurs now sit 2.5 games back of the Oklahoma City Thunder for the conference's top spot with seven games remaining, starting with a Wednesday night road game against a Golden State Warriors team still missing Stephen Curry to a knee injury.
