Power Ranking the Men's 2026 NCAA Tournament Final Four Teams

Joel ReuterMar 30, 2026

The field of teams still standing in the 2026 men's NCAA tournament has been whittled from 68 all the way down to the Final Four following a thrilling slate of Elite Eight action over the weekend.

One Final Four matchup will feature a pair of No. 1 seeds in the Arizona Wildcats and Michigan Wolverines. With an elite collection of frontcourt talent, it should be a physical game inside, and that could make guard play the X-factor.

The other matchup features the No. 2 seed Connecticut Huskies against the No. 3 seed Illinois Fighting Illini in a rematch of the 2024 Elite Eight when UConn rolled to a 77-52 victory. This year's Illinois squad has the nation's top offense, while the Huskies are built around a stout defense.

Before the national championship matchup is decided next Saturday, let's take a quick moment for one final reset to our power rankings.

Note: Pre-tournament rankings reflect where each team ranked in B/R's Power Ranking of All 68 Teams that published after the bracket was revealed.

4. Connecticut Huskies

1 of 4
UConn v Duke

Pre-Tournament Ranking: 9
KenPom Offense: 28
KenPom Defense: 9

The Path: The Huskies spent the entire season ranked inside the top 10 in the AP poll, climbing as high as No. 2 during a 22-1 start to the year before going 5-3 down the stretch and falling to St. John's in the Big East championship. They have not been steamrolling opponents the way they did a few years ago en route to back-to-back titles, but a buzzer-beater three from Braylon Mullins gave them a 73-72 win against No. 1 seed Duke on Sunday in a game where they trailed by as many as 19 points.

Will Win It All If...: The Huskies play off a stingy defense that is clearly their strength, and they are 25-1 this year when they limit the opposition to fewer than 70 points. However, it's the emergence of Tarris Reed Jr. as a go-to scoring threat that has helped them get this far, as he is averaging 21.8 points and 13.5 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the floor in the NCAA tournament.

3. Illinois Fighting Illini

2 of 4
NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament - Elite Eight - Houston

Pre-Tournament Ranking: 6
KenPom Offense: 1
KenPom Defense: 20

The Path: A 4-4 finish to the regular season and an early loss to Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament left the Illini to settle for a No. 3 seed, but the nation's best offense has carried them to their first Final Four appearance since 2005. Their path included wins over No. 14 Penn, No. 11 VCU and No. 9 Iowa, but they also beat a terrific Houston team by 10 points in the Sweet 16.

Will Win It All If...: The Illini are 21-0 when they score at least 75 points, and it's their offense that could pave the way to the school's first ever national championship. Freshmen Keaton Wagler (17.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 4.3 APG) and David Mirkovic (13.5 PPG, 8.1 RPG) are the team's leading scorers, and they will both need to be on top of their games.

2. Arizona Wildcats

3 of 4
Purdue v Arizona

Pre-Tournament Ranking: 2
KenPom Offense: 4
KenPom Defense: 2

The Path: The Wildcats spent nine straight weeks at No. 1 in the AP poll during a 23-0 start, and their only hiccup all season came when they lost back-to-back games to Kansas and Texas Tech in early February. They have won all four of their NCAA tournament games by double figures, including a 21-point win over Arkansas and a 15-point victory over Purdue in the Elite Eight.

Will Win It All If...: Arizona's ability to control the paint on both sides of the floor is the reason they have been so consistent this season, but it's the play of their guards that will likely be the difference maker in their push for a championship. Big 12 Player of the Year Jaden Bradley is the anchor, while freshman Brayden Burries has averaged 17.8 points while connecting on 13-of-19 three-point attempts in four NCAA tournament games.

1. Michigan Wolverines

4 of 4
Tennessee v Michigan

Pre-Tournament Ranking: 3
KenPom Offense: 5
KenPom Defense: 1

The Path: The Wolverines looked like the best team in the country at times during the regular season, including an 11-game winning streak in conference play, and their unique three-big lineup has made them a matchup nightmare all year. They rode their size to lopsided victories over Howard and Saint Louis, but their guards stepped up in a 90-77 win over Alabama before their lopsided 95-62 win against Tennessee in the Elite Eight.

Will Win It All If...: Surviving the Alabama game proved this Michigan team can beat you with more than just sheer size, and the dismantling of Tennessee provided a good reminder of why Yaxel Lendeborg (27 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks) was a first team All-American. As long as they don't get sucked into playing someone else's game and start relying too heavily on outside shooting, they look like the team to beat.
