Did John Calipari Shade Kentucky's Mark Pope? Fans Sound Off on Arkansas HC's Remarks
In his final press conference of the season, Arkansas head coach John Calipari caught the attention of those listening intently to his every word.
While he didn't call out his former team Kentucky and its head coach Mark Pope by name, Calipari described a program in a situation very similar to the Wildcats following Arkansas' season-ending loss to Arizona in the Sweet 16.
"There are a lot of people—how about this—you have no recruits, you have no idea who's coming back, you don't have the money you had a year ago," Calipari said. "You do not. And now, all of a sudden, you're trying to keep guys, figure out who else out there wants to come and who wants to put on a bidding war, which we won't be involved in."

College basketball fans certainly felt like Calipari's words were directed towards Kentucky.
Calipari, who left Kentucky for Arkansas two years ago, makes some fair points—if he is referencing the Wildcats. Pope still has no recruits signed from the class of 2026, meaning he'll likely have to go through the portal to field a talented roster next year.
Arkansas, meanwhile, has the fifth-ranked recruiting class and should have another talented roster in 2026-27. Whether he can make it past the Sweet 16 with that roster is the question.
