Jordan Love 'Very Happy' HC Matt LaFleur Got New Contract, Won't Have to 'Learn a Whole New System'

Scott PolacekMar 26, 2026

Matt LaFleur has been the head coach of the Green Bay Packers for Jordan Love's entire career since the team drafted him in 2020, and the quarterback is glad that isn't changing.

"Being able to keep Matt around is awesome, and I'm very happy about that," he said. "… I've done this in college where the coaches leave and you're in a new system and it's tough. It's a lot to be able to learn a whole new system and new terminology. For a quarterback to be able to stay in the same system and keep the same terminology, it definitely helps me."

Despite a second consecutive loss in the NFC Wild Card Round to end the most recent campaign, the Packers rewarded LaFleur with a multiyear extension in January.

Green Bay's season came to a stunning end, as it blew a 21-3 lead to the rival Chicago Bears in the second half of their playoff matchup. Chicago scored 25 points in the fourth quarter alone and continued the momentum it built in the rivalry with an NFC North title during the regular season.

If it created a situation of uncertainty, the Packers didn't wait long to resolve it with the contract extension.

LaFleur has enjoyed plenty of success in his seven seasons with six playoff appearances and a 76-40-1 record. Most teams would love that type of consistency, but the Packers are a franchise accustomed to winning that surely eyes a Super Bowl every season.

They have not won the NFC North since the 2021 season and haven't made it past the NFC Divisional Round since the 2020 campaign. That may have created some frustration among the fans, but they are running it back with the same coach and quarterback combination in 2026.

That is welcome news for Love considering LaFleur is widely seen as an excellent offensive mind with an offensive background.

The quarterback completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions last season, marking the third straight year he threw for more than 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Green Bay's immediate outlook likely depends on whether he can take another step under LaFleur, and the team is betting on continuity following the extension for the coach.
