76ers' Tyrese Maxey Gives Jimmy Fallon His 'Avengers' NBA Starting Lineup in 'Tonight Show' Video
Philadelphia 76ers All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey blended his love for basketball and superheroes during his appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night.
Beginning at the 5:10 mark of his interview with Fallon, Maxey was asked to build a team of Avengers featuring NBA players, and the 25-year-old superstar compared some of the top players in the league to the best Marvel has to offer:
Maxey chose either himself or Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell as Spider-Man, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as Iron Man, Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart as The Incredible Hulk, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James as Captain America and Lakers guard Luka Dončić as Thor.
The two-time All-Star also provided his rationale for each pick he made. He expressed his belief that Spider-Man is a normal, genuine person behind his mask, just like himself.
Additionally, he compared SGA's sense of style and humor to Iron Man, Stewart's temper to The Hulk based on the time he tried to get in a scuffle with LeBron, James to Captain America due to his leadership of Team USA at the Olympics and Dončić to Thor because they are both "magical."
Although Maxey is currently on the shelf with a finger injury, he is currently in the midst of his best NBA season to date.
Across 61 games, Maxey is averaging a career-high 29.0 points per contest to go along with 6.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 three-pointers made and 2.0 steals.
The 2020 No. 21 overall pick out of Kentucky has shown significant improvement in each of his six NBA seasons, placing him among the elite players in the sport, and firmly in The Avengers conversation.
