Buy or Sell Seth Rollins WWE WrestleMania Rumors, Latest on Ronda Rousey in AEW, More
So much for the pro wrestling rumor mill not matching the energy of WrestleMania season.
What felt like a quiet few weeks of buzz around pro wrestling just ramped up…and it feels organic as major plans start to unfold.
Check out some of the names in the top rumors right now: Ronda Rousey, Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, CM Punk, Roman Reigns and a little buzz about Tony Khan's alleged past attempt to…buy WWE.
To help fans keep up with the suddenly wicked pace, let's throw the biggest rumors on the BS Meter, with 10 being the highest form of unbelievable buzz fans can safely dismiss.
CM Punk-Roman Reigns plans changed?
1 of 6
The Rumor
Looks like the fans were right. According to Bodyslam.net (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), Roman Reigns was indeed going to bring up Larry, CM Punk's late dog, in a recent promo battle, before that idea got the boot.
Reaction
Fans called this one from the jump after Punk brought up Reigns' late father in a heated promo battle a few weeks back. The natural escalation of things seemed to be heading that direction as WWE gives some serious personal heat to the feud.
BS Meter: 1
It's easy to see why this one got called off. Not because Punk said no. But because it'll probably pop up closer to WrestleMania to take things up another notch. Punk is, after all, the guy who played with Paul Bearer's urn/ashes in a promo during a feud against Undertaker.
Bron Breakker update
2 of 6
The Rumor
Maybe fans will get Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker after all. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), WWE is starting to feel good about Breakker potentially being cleared in time for a WrestleMania match.
Reaction
Maybe this is why Brock Lesnar beat the tar out of Seth Rollins' many masked men recently. One can presume they're building up to Rollins and Breakker going at it in a 'Mania match.
BS Meter: 5
The report also mentions that WWE has a backup plan in place, so this is one of those 50-50, obvious rumors making the rounds. If Breakker is cleared (and Seth, really), all is well. If not, one can imagine someone like Logan Paul steps into a major role. Austin Theory still exists, too.
Ronda Rousey reaction and outlook
3 of 6
The Rumor
Ronda Rousey is back in pro wrestling after all. In the wake of her actions over in AEW, WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman) reported that there was no negative reaction to her showing up with the promotion.
Reaction
Rousey is a polarizing performer in many ways, hence this sort of report even needing to go public. That's especially true right now because, in many ways, AEW has avoided this type of, well, WWEish-feeling signing in the past.
BS Meter: 5
Call this another 50-50 one. There were no public reactions from wrestlers backstage, sure. But it's not bound to be a popular move with everyone. Still, the business is the business and Rousey should bring eyeballs to AEW that wouldn't normally look their way. It's probably more positively received backstage than compared to, say, how the vocal internet fanbase took the whole thing.
Another Royce Keys update
4 of 6
The Rumor
Royce Keys has been one of the strangest aspects of WWE programming for a while now. According to Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer (h/t Ortman), WWE fans won't have to worry about one thing at least: He's not set to be part of 'Mania plans involving Jelly Roll.
Reaction
It's straight-up shocking that this rumor even needs to go live. WWE gave Keys some major presentation during his debut at Royal Rumble, but he's since vanished amid buzz he's still adapting to how WWE's style works.
BS Meter: 1
Easy enough to buy this rumor. Even WWE has to realize that throwing Keys in a program that involves a guy named Jelly Roll would finish off any upside he might've had within the promotion. If that's in the range of options, perhaps it's best to save Keys until after 'Mania.
Tony Khan attempted to…buy WWE?
5 of 6
The Rumor
Here's one of the stranger rumors…ever. According to Post Wrestling's Brandon Thurston, a Tony Khan company (Base 10) was one of the five bidders for WWE back in 2023, a development only just revealed in newly unredacted court documents.
Reaction
The court documents relate to a lawsuit that claimed WWE's sale was a sham intended to get the company positioned for a UFC-TKO merger, to briefly summarize. More shocking here, of course, is the fact AEW essentially attempted to bid for WWE at all.
BS Meter: 5
Let's fence-sit on this one, too. The reporting weaves together some unrelated documents to prove Khan's connection to Base 10, which is fair enough. Whether Khan was really after WWE is hard to say. One clear thing? Fans win. Competition is good and both products are and will remain different.
Toni Storm injury/absence?
6 of 6
The Rumor
How about a late-developing entry set to dominate the next few weeks? According to F4WOnline's Bryan Alvarez (h/t Cain A. Knight of Cageside Seats), Toni Storm will be out of AEW for "for a long time" due to injury.
Reaction
There's some wild timing going on around this. Storm was just front and center in a standoff with Rousey at AEW Revolution. But on Dynamite this week, AEW announced she was found unconscious backstage and continues to play it up like a mystery attacker angle.
BS Meter: 6
Anything injury-related on this topic right now is just speculation. But AEW throwing it out as a mystery is worth noting. So, too, is Rousey being scheduled for a UFC fight in May, so not exactly available for a real wrestling program just yet. It's an odd, developing-by-the-hour story and, frankly, big enough to spar with or surpass the 'Mania buzz right now.
