Watch Bruce Pearl Explain How to Upset Duke, Michigan, Arizona, Florida in March Madness Bracket

Andrew PetersMar 17, 2026

This year's March Madness bracket is top-heavy with some strong No. 1 seeds, but former Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl believes that even the best teams could be on upset watch.

Pearl, who took the Tigers to the Final Four a year ago, detailed what it will take for teams to upset Duke, Michigan, Arizona and Florida in this year's tournament.

The Blue Devils have been arguably the most dominant team in the country this year, going 32-2 on their way to ACC regular-season and tournament titles. Duke's only two losses have come by a combined four points. Still, even the top overall seed is capable of slipping up.

Michigan has been outstanding all year as well, heading into the tournament with a 31-3 record. While the Wolverines have been mostly perfect, an upset loss to Purdue in the Big Ten tournament championship proved that they have some flaws.

Arizona dropped back-to-back games in February after an undefeated start, leading some to believe the Wildcats weren't the contender they were initially believed to be. However, they've won nine consecutive games and head into the tournament with plenty of momentum.

Florida is arguably the weakest No. 1 seed, coming into the tournament 26-6 on the heels of a blowout loss to Vanderbilt in the SEC tournament. But just because they've had some errors this season doesn't mean the defending champs should be counted out to win the title again this year.
