Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard commented Tuesday night about Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo's shocking, 83-point explosion against the Washington Wizards.
Speaking during the Blazers' broadcast, Lillard recalled a conversation he had with Adebayo when they were teammates for Team USA at the 2020 Summer Olympics:
"When we was at the Olympics, Bam was like, 'I'm trying to average 30.' I literally said to him, 'You think you're a 30-point-per-game scorer like that?' When I was watching, I was like, 'Maybe he knew something I didn't know.'"
After joking that he taught Adebayo everything he knows, Lillard also jokingly credited Adebayo's girlfriend, A'ja Wilson of the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces, with Bam's success, saying, "I had to call A'ja, like, 'You been training this dude?' A'ja been working with him because he ain't ever scored like this in his life."
Adebayo, who averages 16.1 points per game for his career and 20.0 points per game this season, made history on Tuesday night, as his 83 points surpassed Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant for the second-most points ever scored by a single player in an NBA game, behind only Wilt Chamberlain's 100.
