Bam Adebayo Scores 83, Tops Kobe as LeBron, NBA Fans Celebrate Heat Star's Historic Performance

Andrew PetersMar 10, 2026

Have a night, Bam Adebayo.

The Miami Heat star had a historic scoring performance in a 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards, posting 83 points on 20-of-43 from the field, 7-of-22 from deep and 36-of-43 from the free throw line.

His 83 points are the second most in a single game in NBA history, only behind Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point performance in 1962, as he surpassed Kobe Bryant's 81-point performance from 2006. His 36 free throws are a new record for the most made in a single game.

NBA fans and players reacted accordingly to Adebayo's absurd scoring outburst.

To say that Adebayo's scoring explosion came out of nowhere would be an understatement. Any player in the NBA dropping 80-plus would have been a surprise, let alone one known more for his defense than his scoring.

Coming into Tuesday's contest, Adebayo was averaging 18.9 points per game and was attempting just 15.9 field goals per contest. His previous career high was 41, less than half of what he had on Tuesday, and he had only scored more than 30 three times this year, most recently in January.

If there was a team to go off against, it's the Wizards. Washington has been one of the worst defensive teams in the league this year, ranking 30th in defensive rating.

While Adebayo might not be remembered for being a prolific scorer once he retires, nothing can take away from the fact that he had one of the best single-game scoring performances in NBA history.

The Heat have been playing well as of late, winning nine of their last 11 to move into sixth place in the East, and the huge night from Adebayo should only get them more fired up as they look to secure a playoff spot over the next month.
