NFL Preseason Schedule 2015: Dates, Ticket Info, Live Stream for Top Matchups
Prepare for speculation to significantly multiply and football fever to escalate as the NFL preseason begins on Sunday, August 9.
Yes, preseason does not pack the same kind of punch as the regular season, with first-string players making mere cameos at times, but thirst for gridiron play will be temporarily quenched as fans get an early glimpse at some of their heroes.
These games will also provide looks at some players who will do little more than grace the practice squad, but champions are won from top to bottom on a roster, and preseason is vital for the right steps to be made toward the Lombardi Trophy.

Top Matchups
Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks (Week 1)
The Seahawks have had the Broncos' number over the past two seasons. After the dismantling 43-8 victory in Super Bowl XLVIII, the Seahawks defeated the Broncos in Week 3 of the 2014 season with a 26-20 win in Seattle.
It's Seattle's first competitive game since their opportunity for a repeat fell a few yards short in Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots, and they will want to show that the NFC is still going to have to go through the Emerald City.
Quarterback Russell Wilson can breathe a bit easier now, as he'll be playing under a new contract that sees him making over $87 million in four years. It's hard to argue why he doesn't deserve it. Fox Sports Live delved into his resume after three seasons in the league:
"Russell Wilson has 36 regular season wins, and 6 playoff wins. That is the MOST ever by a QB in 3 seasons. pic.twitter.com/lrZ5IqYxef
— FOX Sports Live (@FOXSportsLive) August 1, 2015"
Wilson gets to test out a new relationship in Week 1 with new tight end Jimmy Graham, who was acquired from the New Orleans Saints to deliver a big, reliable target for Wilson, who has been winning games despite not having the most talented receiving group in the league.
On the other sideline, a 39-year-old Peyton Manning will have to prove that he is still one of the game's elite quarterbacks, especially after some leaked Tom Brady emails showed his views on the veteran (per Boston.com, h/t SBNation):
That's bulletin board material right there.
While Wilson gained a big tight end target, Manning will be without one of his favorite targets, Julius Thomas, who joined the Jacksonville Jaguars in the offseason. He will have Owen Daniels among new targets at tight end; that position has been one of Manning's most reliable over his career, from Dallas Clark in Indianapolis to Thomas in Denver.
He'll have his first test of 2015 against one of the best secondaries in the league, as a safety duo of Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas III complement cornerback Richard Sherman, who will never turn down an opportunity to make a statement at any time of year.
Week 1 of the preseason will not see the starters for playing more than a quarter, if they even make it that far, but a win over Seattle can bring some confidence to a Broncos team that has been unable to find a way past the two-time defending NFC champions.
Washington Redskins at Cleveland Browns (Week 1)
As opposed to two of the game's top quarterbacks in Seattle and Denver, America gets a look at two of the younger, more troubled quarterbacks in the game between the bottom-dwelling Redskins and Browns.
Everyone loves quarterback controversy, and this Week 1 game is teeming with it.
Robert Griffin III has been given the starting nod from Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, but it does not seem like all is well in the nation's capitol, as Griffin spoke with MMQB's Peter King (h/t Sporting News):
"They are asking me to be basic and take the plays that are there. If that's what Jay wants me to do, that's what I'm going got do. It doesn't mean you take everything out of your game. When those opportunities come up to make plays out of the pocket I will do it and not think twice about it. But if they are asking me to be ordinary, that's what I am going to have to do.
"
With Griffin's injury history, it might be better to keep him in the pocket as much as possible, but Washington's man under center certainly does not seem happy about it.
This new-look Griffin is going to try to piece together a full season with speedy target DeSean Jackson, who recently said via John Keim of ESPN.com that "no one can stop me. You can get Darrelle Revis, Richard Sherman—whoever you want to get."
Washington's quarterback situation looks like a walk in the park compared to Cleveland's.
Brian Hoyer went to the Houston Texans, while Cleveland brought in Josh McCown from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who is most likely going to start.
According to Browns head coach Mike Pettine, McCown could be a long-term option despite being 36 years old, as reported by NFL.com's Albert Breer. "He's like that car that has low mileage, kept in the garage and driven to church on Sundays by a little old lady," Pettine said. "He's got a lot left."
The Browns will move forward, finally, without wide receiver Josh Gordon, whose troubles, with either the law or league, led to his removal from the team. Cleveland tried to fill the void by nabbing Dwayne Bowe, but McCown will not have many other targets.
And while Browns fans might be interested to see McCown's first snaps as a Brown, America wants to see the man backing him up, Johnny Manziel.
From not taking his role seriously enough to going to rehab, Manziel has not seen much of the field, attempting just 35 passes in his rookie season in 2014. He most likely won't get a lot of playing time in 2015, either.
But it seems that his mind is in the right place and that his teammates are noticing it, as safety and teammate Donte Whitner said, via Breer:
"Johnny's a totally different guy than he was last year. He's 100 percent strictly football right now. He's working his best to be a pocket, prototype quarterback back there. He's been doing a pretty good job. Again, I just can't wait to see what he does in the scrimmage on Friday up in Columbus, and then going into the preseason games, to see what he can do up there.
"
The preseason will be Manziel's chance to show the Browns, the media and football fans that he can be taken seriously for a change as he makes strides toward developing into a legitimate, NFL-ready starting quarterback.
Philadelphia Eagles at New York Jets (Week 4)
It would not be a complete offseason without Tim Tebow speculation. Well, there was plenty more than mere speculation this time around, as the former Bronco, Jet and Patriot is trying to make it with his fourth NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
There's no better way to end the preseason by putting him up against one of his former teams, the New York Jets.
He's not alone, either. His teammate both in New York and now Philadelphia, second-stringer Mark Sanchez, is also seeing the Jets for the first time since he was run out of New York in a sea of butt-fumble replays.
But it's doubtful that Tebow could see much time against the Jets in Week 4, as Sam Bradford is slated to be the starting quarterback, with Sanchez behind him. Sanchez, however, still thinks that there is a competition at quarterback, via NJ.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks.
There isn't really any doubt that Tebow is taking this chance seriously, but SportsCenter took a look at how he was getting into shape during the offseason:
He seems really serious. And his teammate, linebacker Brandon Graham was serious in telling 107.5 FM in Philadelphia that Tebow will play "a lot" this season, as reported by Sports Illustrated's Jeremy Woo.
If Graham's predictions come true, then Tebow, along with Sanchez will be taking on a hobbled Jets team that went from high hopes after the 2015 draft to the same old pessimism on the eve of the preseason.
And they have every right to pessimistic.
New draftee Leonard Williams was set to join Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson in becoming one of the most feared defensive lines in the AFC. Richardson however, was suspended for the first four games of the season after off-field issues have him in trouble with the law.
New Jets head coach Todd Bowles is still supporting him, according to Newsday's Kimberly A. Martin:
Combine that with a Wilkerson hamstring injury while trying to work out a new contract and doubt surrounding quarterback Geno Smith, who has yet to show that he can lead an NFL team, and the Jets are looking to...well, be the Jets again in 2015, instead of AFC East contenders.
The preseason is in no way a sentence as to how a team will perform, but there are plenty of dramatic storylines that are set to be played out in the NFL's exhibition games.
There might be some rust to shake off, some semi-professional level play at times, but the four weeks leading up to the regular season will captivate a nation nonetheless.
