Michael Jordan Says 'No Way' Team USA Shouldn't Win Gold Medal in Men's Basketball at 2028 Olympics

Andrew PetersMar 8, 2026

International competition in basketball is better than it's ever been and is only getting better, but Michel Jordan believes that there is no excuse for Team USA to come up short in the 2028 Olympics.

The NBA legend said "there's no way" the United States shouldn't win gold in Los Angeles in 2028.

"Basketball is so strong in the United States," Jordan said. "There's no way we should lose."

Team USA won gold in Paris in 2024, but it didn't dominate the competition the way it has in past years. With tough games against Serbia, France and more, the 2024 Games showed just how much the rest of the world has caught up to the United States.

The level of international competition has also been on display in the NBA, with international stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Dončić taking over.

Still, Team USA should have one of, if not the best, roster in 2028, assuming all of the league's stars are once again interested in playing. Jordan's comments on Sunday could serve as motivation to ensure the United States wins gold once again.
