New Ja Morant Injury Update, Latest on Grizzlies Star's Status and Timeline to Return

Paul KasabianMar 24, 2026

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season with an elbow injury, the team announced Tuesday.

Morant "continues to progress in his rehabilitation of a UCL sprain in his left elbow" and received a platelet-rich plasma injection to "further optimize healing," the Grizzlies said in a statement.

The star point guard is expected to make a full recovery before the 2026-27 campaign.

Morant has been out with a UCL sprain in his left elbow since Jan. 21, when Memphis fell 124-122 to the Atlanta Hawks.

On March 5, the Grizzlies announced Morant was progressing in rehab but that follow-up imaging revealed "incomplete healing." He was also still experiencing discomfort and would be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Morant is going through a tough 2025-26 season shortened by 20 contests due to injury. He previously missed over a month with a right calf strain.

Through 20 games, he's averaging 19.5 points on 41.0 percent shooting (23.5 percent from three) and 8.1 assists per game.

Morant was on a superstar trajectory earlier in his career and shined for a Grizzlies team that finished second in the Western Conference's regular season standings in 2021-22 and 2022-23. The former Murray State standout earned All-Star Game appearances in both seasons.

However, it's been a tough run ever since. He played just nine games during the 2023-24 season and 50 games in 2024-25. Morant was suspended twice due to incidents with guns and also dealt with numerous injuries, including a subluxation that required season-ending right shoulder surgery in Jan. 2024.

Morant was involved in trade rumors during the 2025-26 season but ultimately "didn't have much of a trade market," per Jake Fischer for the Stein Line newsletter.

Morant is a fantastic player and electric talent when healthy, and hopefully he can enjoy a long string of good health soon and showcase the skills fans saw earlier this decade.
