Every Team's Ideal 1st-Round Pick 👌
ESPN's Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler previously connected Murray to the Vikings, who are reportedly interested in bringing a veteran into town after J.J. McCarthy struggled over his first 10 career starts in 2025.
ESPN's Kevin Seifert connected the QB and team as well.
Numerous ex-NFL players, analysts and fans have provided their takes on Murray in Minnesota.
Murray played seven seasons with the Cardinals after being selected first overall in the 2019 NFL draft. The former Oklahoma star (and 2018 Heisman Trophy winner) is a two-time Pro Bowler who completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 121 touchdowns (60 interceptions) and 20,460 yards (7.0 yards per attempt) in 87 starts while rushing for 3,193 yards and 32 touchdowns.
The Vikings need help at quarterback. McCarthy, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, completed just 57.6 percent of his passes for 11 touchdowns (12 interceptions) and 1,632 yards (6.7 yards per attempt). The former Michigan star finished 40th out of 42 qualifiers in quarterback rating.
He did deal with numerous injuries that cost him seven games during his rookie year, which certainly impeded his progress and development.
He can certainly be the answer down the road, but it may be difficult for the Vikings to turn back to McCarthy in 2026. Minnesota has a playoff-caliber roster. The team went 9-8 last year despite scoring just 26th in points per game. Minnesota finished over .500 thanks to landing third in fewest yards allowed per play in 2025. The Vikings also benefited from the efforts of First Team All-Pro kicker Will Reichard.
Simply put, if the Vikings want to get the most out of this team, the best bet may be to bring in a veteran like Murray, who can lead Minnesota to greater heights.
The issue is that other teams could certainly have interest. A few QB-needy teams are out there, including the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. Teams won't have to pay much for Murray's services, either.
We'll see where Murray lands soon enough with free agency beginning on March 11, but Minnesota seems like a real possibility.
