The Grizzlies agreed to a contract buyout with forward Kyle Anderson earlier on Thursday, per Charania.
As for Gibson, he'll be entering his 17th year in the NBA. He previously appeared in 37 games with the Charlotte Hornets during the 2024-25 season.
Gibson averaged 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 11.1 minutes per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the field as a member of the Hornets.
He's played for seven different teams throughout his lengthy NBA tenure and has 71 playoff games under his belt. Gibson owns career averages of 8.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.
While the Grizzlies sit at No. 11 in the Western Conference standings with a 21-36 record, Gibson could operate in a mentorship role as part of a young Memphis frontcourt.
21-year-old GG Jackson and 22-year-old Taylor Hendricks are both in the midst of their third seasons in the NBA. Although Santi Aldama has five years of experience in the association, he only turned 25 years old on Jan. 10.
