Anthony Edwards Fan Luca Who Gave Wolves Star Orange Wristband Beats Cancer

The fan who gave Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards his orange wristband is cancer free.

Timberwolves fan Luca Wright is cancer free after a battle with leukemia, his mother Lacey Wright announced Thursday on social media.

Luca gifted Edwards with an orange "Love Like Luca" wristband while meeting with Timberwolves players before road game against the Detroit Pistons in January 2025.

He was holding a sign at the time that featured a to-do list of "1. Beat Cancer 2. Be The Next MJ."

Edwards, who promised Luca he would wear the wristband "the rest of my career," has since regularly worn an orange wristband.

Edwards then reunited with Luca during the 2025 All-Star Weekend in the Bay Area the following month.

At least one wristband has been lost along the way. The bracelet could be seen snapping from Edwards' wrist in Game 4 of the Timberwolves' first-round matchup with the Lakers last April, although Edwards has been spotted wearing what could be a replacement wristband since.

Luca was five years old when he was diagnosed with leukemia, and six years old when he met the Timberwolves last season, according to The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski.

His mother Lacey told Krawczynski last year that baseball had "gotten him through" his hospitalization and chemotherapy treatments.

"Never, ever did we dream that Ant would put it on and be like, 'You know what, buddy, I'm gonna wear this for you,'" Lacey told Krawczynski. "It's just been amazing, and Luca watches and he loves that. He talks about him daily."

Multiple Timberwolves players, including Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Mike Conley, credited meeting Luca with helping inspire them and Edwards down the stretch of the 2024-25 season, per Krawczynski.

The Wolves are now heading into Thursday ranked No. 5 in the Western Conference with a 36-23. Edwards and his teammates are set to tip off a road game against the Los Angeles Clippers at 10 p.m. ET.
