NBA Cancels Hawks' Magic City Promotion Night, Adam Silver Issues Statement
The NBA is cancelling the Atlanta Hawks' "Magic City" promo night that was slated for their March 16 contest against the Orlando Magic.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver released a statement on Monday, citing "significant concerns from a broad array of league stakeholders, including fans, partners and employees." He added that cancelling the promotion "is the right decision for the broader NBA community."
The team issued a statement in response to the decision:
The Hawks announced a "Magic City" promo night last month that was supposed to include a performance from Atlanta rapper T.I. and feature lemon pepper chicken wings on the concession menu.
In a press release, the Hawks described Magic City as an "iconic cultural institution."
"From the food to the music and the exclusive merchandise, we are excited to team up with Magic City to create an authentic, True to Atlanta-inspired game experience," said Hawks executive vice president and chief marketing officer Melissa Proctor.
