Latest Giannis Trade Rumors Reveal 'Most Likely Endgame' for Bucks Star, New Suitors

Doric SamFeb 22, 2026

Despite retaining star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo at the NBA trade deadline earlier this month, the Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly still expected to let go of the two-time MVP at some point.

NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that he's been in contact with "four sources close to the situation who have all maintained that a move to a true title contender is the most likely endgame for the 31-year-old."

While the Miami Heat were among the teams known to have pursued Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline, Fischer revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets could all emerge as potential trade suitors for him this summer.

"Miami will have more draft capital available to make a stronger proposal," Fischer explained. "As Marc Stein wrote here Feb. 4, significant summer salary cap space is expected to make the Lakers a viable suitor in the Giannis Sweepstakes. I also continue to hear rival teams musing aloud about Brooklyn's potential emergence as a credible destination given the Nets' considerable cache of draft capital to package with, say, Michael Porter Jr. … or with a trade construction that keeps MPJ in place to play alongside Antetokounmpo. It remains to be seen, furthermore, what happens in the playoffs with teams like San Antonio and Houston. Perhaps a team that wasn't pursuing Antetokounmpo this winter will have a higher level of interest after a playoff disappointment yet to unfold."

While Antetokounmpo was the most coveted player ahead of this season's trade deadline, one team executive told Fischer earlier this month that the Bucks "were never serious" when discussing potential trades for him.

However, Fischer is now reporting that league sources "nonetheless continue to indicate, loud and clear, that the Bucks did entertain and discuss Giannis trade frameworks like never before during the final week leading up to the Feb. 5 trade buzzer." There are several teams that "continue to believe" a trade "will finally happen during the looming offseason."

During All-Star Weekend, Antetokounmpo told ESPN's Malika Andrews, "As of today, I'm committed to the Milwaukee Bucks." He can silence the trade speculation by signing a contract extension with the franchise, but it sounds like the prevalent expectation is that he will be wearing a new uniform in 2026-27.
