Joe Lunardi Bracketology 2026 Seeds, Bubble Teams and More After Duke, Arizona Wins
The four men's college basketball teams in the lead to be No. 1 seeds in the NCAA tournament faced off in a pair of games on Saturday with Arizona visiting Houston and Michigan facing Duke in Washington, D.C.
In the end, Arizona beat Houston 73-66, and Duke took down Michigan 68-63.
ESPN's Joe Lunardi provided a seeding update after those games.
Unsurprisingly, Duke's win over Michigan moved the Blue Devils to the No. 1 overall seed. Michigan had that spot leading into Saturday, but Duke taking the Wolverines down on a neutral court is a massive victory.
Michigan is still a No. 1 seed, of course. Arizona's No. 1 status is strengthened with a huge road win over Houston.
The Cougars have now fallen to the No. 2 seed line, though, and Iowa State has taken their place. Iowa State entered Saturday with huge wins over Kansas and Houston and has now catapulted itself to the No. 1 seed line for now.
However, the final No. 1 seed spot appears wide open. UConn just had a tough loss over unranked Creighton at home on Wednesday, but the Huskies bounced back with a road win over Villanova. If the Huskies win out, they'll go into March Madness at 31-3 and Big East conference champions.
That could be good enough for the final spot, although Iowa State can really strengthen its case down the stretch too, with a road game against Arizona looming on March 2.
The No. 2 seed line consists of UConn, Houston, Illinois and Purdue, but Florida could very well move up from No. 3 when all is said and done. The defending champions have won seven straight, and all of the games were by nine or more points.
As far as Lunardi's bubble goes, TCU moved into the field after taking down West Virginia 60-54. USC dropped out after a tough home loss to a 10-17 Oregon squad, 71-70.
Indiana and Missouri are on the bubble and in the "last four byes" group, but neither team has fared well lately. The Hoosiers had a chance to get a huge tournament resume boost against Illinois or Purdue this week but lost to both by a combined 49 points. Missouri has lost two of three, with the latest loss being a 94-86 road defeat to Arkansas.
