Per The Athletic's Chris Vannini, this marks the first time in more than 16 years that active college players are featured in a major video game. The pack will include players from Arizona, Baylor, Duke, Florida, Houston, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, UCLA, UConn, North Carolina, Kentucky and Texas.

In addition to the active college basketball players coming to NBA 2K26, 2K Sports announced alumni player cards for Kevin Durant (Texas), Paige Bueckers (UConn), V.J. Edgecombe (Baylor), Marvin Bagley III (Duke), Jason Williams (Florida), Rip Hamilton (UConn), Breanna Stewart (UConn), Draymond Green (Michigan State) and Larry Brown (Kansas coach).

"Authentically representing the scale of college hoops is an ambitious project that begins with our foundational college basketball experience available in early 2027," 2K Sports stated in a release. "We'll have more details to share on that in the future."

2K Sports last released a standalone college basketball video game in 2008. Vannini noted that the company's plan "has been for more college player options in 2027," so it remains to be seen if a new standalone game will be in the pipeline at some point.
