This is a big loss for the Tar Heels. Wilson is their leader in points (19.8), rebounds (9.4), steals (1.5) and blocks (1.4).
UNC has seven games left in the regular season and wraps things up March 7 against Duke. The Miami defeat is perhaps a sign of things to come until Wilson returns, assuming he's back at some point this year.
Wilson played 26 minutes and had a somewhat muted impact, shooting 4-of-10 from the floor for 12 points and hauling in six rebounds. The hand injury occurred in the first half, so he was playing through it in the second. With the 6'10" forward not at his best, the Tar Heels couldn't get past a beatable Hurricanes squad.
Now, he'll be out of the lineup altogether indefinitely.
The comeback win over the Blue Devils helped to generate so much excitement in Chapel Hill. The conversations around the program had changed quite a bit compared to the immediate aftermath of the road losses to Stanford and California.
Now, news of Wilson's injury will dampen a lot of that optimism.
It's entirely possible he has played his last game in a UNC uniform, too. But Wilson offered an encouraging message on Thursday:
Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman had Wilson at No. 4 in his most recent 2026 NBA mock draft, so it will be a major surprise if he returns for a sophomore season.
