Brooks picked up the tech in the second quarter of Wednesday's 136-109 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Phoenix is heading into the All-Star break, so his suspension won't go into effect until a Feb. 19 matchup with the San Antonio Spurs.

Following Wednesday's loss, Brooks told reporters his technical foul stemmed from his frustration with referee James Williams. He claimed that Williams said during the game he's "playing victim all the time."

For better and worse, the 30-year-old has played up to his reputation following his offseason trade to the Suns.

His 21.2 points are a career high, and he has had a galvanizing effect inside the locker room. The high volume of techs speaks for itself, however, and being such a lightning rod on the court can also serve to fire up opposing teams.

Brooks will have to be careful for the remainder of the year. When a player hits 16 technicals, another one-game suspension is automatically triggered for every two additional techs.

Brooks learned that the hard way in 2023 with the Memphis Grizzlies.
