Bronny James Talks Lakers' Contender Status for NBA Title After Blowout Loss vs. Wemby, Spurs

Timothy RappFeb 11, 2026

The Los Angeles Lakers were blown out by the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, 136-108, though the team was missing Luka Dončić, LeBron James, Austin Reaves, Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart.

Suffice to say, there isn't any panic after the rough loss.

"Our team believes that we can be contenders and make a deep playoff run," Bronny James told reporters. "We all believe that. Once we get healthy, it's just gonna come down to playing hard and playing smart and winning games."

At 32-21, the Lakers sit fifth in the Western Conference, just 1.5 games behind the Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets in the chase for the No. 3 seed.

Catching the Oklahoma City Thunder (41-13) for the top overall seed likely isn't happening, but the Lakers remain in strong contention to nab one of the automatic playoff berths as the All-Star break approaches.
