Cam Thomas, Bucks Agree to Contract After Nets Release After NBA Trade Deadline, Updated Depth Chart
Free-agent guard Cam Thomas was signed by the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday, agent Tony Ronzone told ESPN's Shams Charania and Andscape's Marc J. Spears.
Thomas was waived by the Brooklyn Nets just after the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
Here's a look at the Bucks' updated depth chart, via ESPN.com:
- PG:Ryan Rollins, Kevin Porter Jr., AJ Green
- SG: Kevin Porter Jr., Cam Thomas, Garry Harris, AJ Green, Gary Trent Jr., Ryan Rollins
- SF AJ Green, Gary Trent Jr., Kyle Kuzma, Gary Harris, Andre Jackson Jr.
- PF Kyle Kuzma, Bobby Portis, Pete Nance, Jericho Sims, Ousmane Dieng
- C: Myles Turner, Pete Nance, Jericho Sims, Bobby Portis, Ousmane Dieng
Of course, when Giannis Antetokounmpo returns from injury, the Bucks' front line will get a boost.
The 24-year-old Thomas opened his career with the Nets after they selected him with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft.
Thomas showcased his scoring ability while playing in a smaller role next to top options such as Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Mikal Bridges across his first two seasons in the NBA.
He eventually received more opportunities with the ball in his hands during his 2023-24 campaign and thrived, averaging 22.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from behind the arc.
Thomas recorded 24.0 points per game on 43.8/34.9/88.1 shooting splits the following season, but was limited to just 25 appearances due to a hamstring strain.
While his scoring prowess is admirable, concerns have persisted regarding his defense and playmaking abilities to go along with his health. Thomas was eventually a restricted free agent for the majority of the 2025 offseason before signing the one-year qualifying offer to return to Brooklyn in Sept. 2025.
He opened the 2025-26 season as a starter with the Nets, but missed time due to more hamstring issues before operating in a reserve role after coming back.
Prior to Thomas' release, he averaged 15.6 points and 3.1 assists in 24.3 minutes per game on the season. He also shot 39.9 percent on field goals and 32.5 percent on triples.
Now, Milwaukee will look for Thomas to provide a scoring punch to its rotation as they look to improve upon their 21-29 record.
